Automatic... piece of mind for early stage dementia patients still driving

My dad and I have been using "Automatic" for the last eight months.  With his early to mid-stage dementia he still does a little driving.  My dad occasionally gets lost and this is just peace of mind for both of us. The small gold and white device plugs in under his steering wheel. I know when he is "on the move" when I hear the Automatic app on my phone "honk".

The app is amazing.  It is very accurate.  It tells me where my dad is, how he is driving, and also keeps a history of his trips.  There is no monthly charge and will be "active" for five years.  After that, if your loved one is still driving you would have to buy another one.  The device costs $130, so that turns out to be $26/year.  Pretty cheap if you ask me.  The peace of mind provided for our family is priceless!

The BEST piece of technology for those with dementia...

This little Amazon Echo Dot has been amazing for my dad!  He struggles with using any sort of technology, but "Alexa" (as she's called) helps him listen to music he loves.  All he has to say is "Alexa, play James Taylor," and he is listening to music from one of his favorite artists.

For Christmas, I bought him a three months subscription to www.audible.com.  I have loaded books on his Echo Dot account.  All he has to say is "Alexa, read me a story," and he is listening to one of his favorite authors.

I can also put reminders and alarms on his Echo Dot app from my home and they will sound at his home.  There are SO many ways to use Alexa.  I do put little reminders next to the Echo Dot, such as her name, Alexa (my dad sometime forgets).  I also have some simple commands for my dad to ask her.  He really enjoys using her.

Keeping my dad up-to-date

My dad definitely struggles with technology.  He gets frustrated when he can't use his cell phone to see text messages and view pictures.  This wi-fi Nixplay Seed picture frame is amazing!  I can load pictures for my dad onto an app on my cell phone.  They will pop up on his picture frame without requiring me to be there.  I am so excited to give him this next month for his birthday!

This picture frame will help my dad see what is going on in our family's day-to-day life.  He won't have to worry about trying to make the picture come up.  It will all be done for him through wi-fi.  This 10-inch picture frame is quite expensive, but it will be worth it if it brings my dad as much joy as I think it will!

An AWESOME Clock

This clock has been such a blessing for my dad.  He struggles with understanding what day it is and sometimes even what time of day it is.  This clock can also be seen at all angles and is plugged into the wall, so you don't have to worry about batteries.
